Updating Your Site
There is nothing mysterious and overly complicating in updating your website. All that is needed for the newly prepared content to be displayed over the web is the so-called FTP connection to be established. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is does exactly what the name states: transfer files from one location to another upon request.
FTP connection can be established by using a FTP client or even your web-browser. It is advisable to opt for a client specifically designed to work with FTP because. Their connection usually is faster, more reliable and secure than the one the browser offers. There are several well-working FTP clients – like FileZilla for instance – which are free of charge and can be easily acquired from the Internet. You just need to download it and install it and once it is done a few bit of information are required before the connection can be established.
Most of the FTP clients ask for host, user-name and password. Typically the host would be the name of your web-site but in case it is not working you can get in touch with your web-hosting provider and ask them for guidance. The user-name and the password must be your FTP user-name with its respective password. If you do not know them you can ask your hosting provider to give them to you, preferably via e-mail and not over the phone so that nothing is misspelled. The chances are, however, that the FTP credentials will be listed in the control panel associated with your hosting services.
Once the connection is established you can download web-pages, edit them and upload them back to the server. Give it a try; you will be surprised how easy it actually is!
